Who knew you could MAKE powdered sugar!?!?! Living here in Japan, where powdered sugar is sold by the Tablespoon, I pass over any recipe requiring it. Today I stumbled across a site that has a RECIPE to MAKE powdered sugar - using potato starch (katakuriko) that IS available here in Japan. So - here it is!

Does it work? We just grind up sugar in the coffee grinder & call it powdered sugar, but in my HEAD I always say, "No... this isn't REAL powdered sugar!" Hope to find something to work! Thanks! Tam PS- how are plans to return to the States? Did I tell you I'll be in WA&OR for Jan-May in '10? Would love to get together with you AND to have Beth Bowers come. I know her only via others & Facebook! :)
Sounds great! I have a recipe from an old missionary magazine for using regular sugar plus cornstarch in the food processor, but I never tried it out. Using katakuriko is a great idea! And thanks again for that nice box of powdered sugar you sent me! What a treat!
